Mayor's Message | ourballarat Summer 2021-22

I am delighted to be re-elected for a second term as Mayor. It is a great privilege to serve as Mayor and lead our Council team for the year ahead.

I look forward to continuing a range of important work that will deliver the best quality of life for our community as we work to recover from the impact of the pandemic.

One crucial piece of work is our commitment to reduce the amount of waste and recyclables going to landfill. We want to maximise opportunities for local business to reuse and repurpose recyclables to create valuable new products.

The key to this circular vision is a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), which will receive and sort recyclables for the western Victorian region. This facility will help us cut waste going to landfill by about 10,000 tonnes a year. It’s a sustainable solution that will also attract new investment and bring innovation and jobs to our region. We are seeking government support to deliver a Materials Recovery Facility.

Throughout this edition, you will also discover stories about how we are partnering with our community, including our work with the former residents of the the Ballarat District Orphan Asylum, Ballarat Orphanage and Ballarat Children’s Home to develop a vision for how their stories will be told in the redevelopment of 200 Victoria Street.

This year, our Council adopted our Council Plan 2021-2025. This plan outlines how the City of Ballarat will achieve Council's and the community’s vision of Ballarat. Throughout this edition, you will see how our initiatives align to the goals in our Council Plan.
