Grants

The City of Ballarat has several grant programs to support community groups, organisations and businesses seeking funding for programs, events, products and services that bring a range of benefits to Ballarat.

City Partnership Program

The City Partnerships Program funds organisations or businesses to deliver Council-identified priorities in the following areas:

  • An environmentally sustainable future
  • A healthy, connected and inclusive community
  • A city that fosters sustainable growth
  • A city that conserves and enhances our natural and built assets
  • A strong and innovative economy and city
  • A Council that provides leadership and advocates for its community

City Partnerships are for well-planned projects and programs which may occur over multiple financial years. 

There are two streams of funding:

  1. Community stream: Funding of up to $100,000 per applicant per year
  2. Commercial stream: Funding over $20,000 per applicant per year with no upper limit
     

Who can apply?

City Partnerships will only be awarded to well-established organisations that have a proven record of delivering relevant programs, projects or activities. 

Not-for-profit organisations can apply under the community stream and the commercial stream.

Businesses are only eligible to apply for funding under the commercial stream.

When can I apply?

Applications are accepted between October and March each financial year.

Community Impact Grant Program

The Community Impact Grant Program has opportunities of funding up to $20,000.

This supports community groups and organisations to run projects, programs, events and other activities, or to buy needed equipment to promote community outcomes in:

  1. Environmental sustainability
  2. Healthy, connected and inclusive communities
  3. Community capacity building

Who can apply?

Local, not-for-profit incorporated organisations, groups or associations can apply for Community Impact Grants.

Non-incorporated groups may also apply if they have an auspice relationship with an incorporated group.

When can I apply?

Grant rounds open at the start of August, February and April. Please note: There may be fewer rounds if the overall budget is allocated in earlier rounds.

Round 1

Round 1 of the Community Impact Grant Program was open for applications from Monday 15 August to 5pm Monday 26 September 2022.

Tourism Event Grant Program

The Tourism Events Grant Program (TEGP) addresses key priorities of the Ballarat Events Strategy 2018–2028 to support and attract events which:

  • increase tourism visitation; 
  • support Ballarat’s liveability and build community pride; 
  • contribute to building the city’s perception, improving Ballarat’s competitive strengths and unique qualities.  

The TEGP aims to support a balanced calendar of events which provide exciting reasons to visit Ballarat and increase the vibrancy of the city and region for visitors and residents. 

Who can apply?

For profit organisations and businesses with a commitment to work collaboratively where possible with other groups and businesses. 

Applicants may apply for funding amounts between $500 and $20,000 (GST exclusive). Up to a maximum $20,000 can be allocated across the annual funding program per event. 

For requests under $5,000, applicants can complete the Small Grant Application Form which has fewer details. 

When can I apply?

The Tourism Events Grant Program will be open year round and assessed monthly. The program will remain open until all funds are distributed.

The City of Ballarat’s Grant Finder, powered by GrantGuru, is a free search directory with a wide-ranging list of grant and funding opportunities for local businesses, community groups, not-for-profits, and individuals. 

The database has been tailored for the Ballarat area with a focus on funding for regional areas and Commonwealth/Federal programs – that’s about 1,400 programs with $50 billion of grants available. 

You can use the search engine to find grants and to filter grants by location, industry and type of project. The directory also has advice and tips for finding and applying for grants to maximise your chances of receiving the funding you need.
