Reusable nappy, period and sanitary products rebate

Baby being buttoned into reusable nappy

About the rebate

Ballarat residents are able to claim some of the cost of buying cloth nappies, reusable period products, and reusable maternity breast pads.

The program aims to help with some of the costs of buying these sustainable items.

Households can apply for:

  • 50% of the purchase price, up to $100, for reusable cloth nappy products,
  • 50% of the purchase price, up to $100, for reusable period and sanitary products,
  • 50% of the purchase price, up to $50, for reusable breast pads.

Disposable nappies, period and sanitary products are one of the state’s biggest landfill issues.

The City of Ballarat sends about 8 million nappies to landfill each year. This rebate encourages our residents to think and act sustainably as our population grows.

How does it work?

Once you have bought your reusable products, you can apply to get some of that money back.

When you apply, you need to supply a copy of your receipt and proof of residence such as rates notice, drivers' licence, utility bill or other document with your address.

The program allows for one application for each product type per household.

Applications can be made online or at our Phoenix Building Customer Service Centre on Armstrong Street South.

Successful applicants will have the rebate transferred to their bank account within 21 days of the application being approved.
