The Art Gallery of Ballarat is Australia’s oldest, largest and most engaging regional gallery. Housing a nationally significant collection of over 11,500 artworks and hosting more than 35 exhibitions and 200 public programs and events each year, the Gallery is a key driver of cultural tourism to the Ballarat region as well as much loved local icon.   

  

We are looking for a driven, experienced exhibition specialist to manage the scheduling and practical and logistical aspects of exhibitions at the Gallery. The successful applicant will also manage inward and outward loans. This is a rare opportunity for an exceptional candidate to work with one of Australia’s best collection of Australian art. 

  

Key Selection Criteria  

  • Qualifications and experience as listed in position description.  

  • A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of art gallery registration practices and principles, loans management, art storage requirements and documentation. systems. Excellent knowledge and experience of conservation and packing techniques.    

  • Proven experience in undertaking a range of activities associated with exhibition planning and delivery, including the implementation and maintenance of schedules and management of competing priorities and deadlines.   

  • Considerable experience in training, motivating, coordinating and leading a team with a focus on project management and achieving corporate priorities.    

  • Demonstrated knowledge and considerable experience in strategic and budget planning and project management including developing briefs, scheduling, budgeting and meeting deadlines.   

  • Proven ability in the use of computer applications and collections management databases.    

  • Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to successfully liaise and negotiate at all levels and the ability to participate in a work culture consistent with Gallery values and being part of a cohesive and productive team.   

  • Knowledge and understanding of State indemnity schemes, Commonwealth Government insurance funding and cultural schemes, customs and export/import regulations for the transportation of works of art on loan.    

  • With a focus on service delivery, the ability to work flexibly, cooperatively and an ability to work outside core hours as required.
