Do you know a young person that contributes a lot to Ballarat and deserves some recognition?
Then why not put their name forward for a prestigious honour?
Nominations have now opened for the City of Ballarat 2023 Youth Awards.
Since 2005, the City of Ballarat Youth Awards have recognised the outstanding contributions that young people make to the Ballarat community.
The awards shine a light on the leadership, innovation, kindness, and exemplary commitment to community that young people demonstrate.
Open to people aged 12-25, the awards are designed to celebrate the achievements of young people, as well as recognising influential adults who empower our youth and create opportunities for them to thrive.
This year, there are 10 nomination categories and all nominations are considered for two overall major award categories, Major Award 12 – 17 years old and Major Award 18 – 25 years old.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Des Hudson said the annual awards were a great way to highlight the tremendous contributions young people make to the city.
“Young people are our future and I am passionate about working closely with them and giving them the recognition they deserve,” Cr Hudson said.
“These are the people that will one day be the leaders of Ballarat.
“If you know a young person in Ballarat who is making a difference to our community and our city, make sure you nominate them for an award.”
Ruby Lloyd-Vendy, the winner of the 18–25 Major Award in 2022, said it was a thrill to win last year and encouraged people to come forward with nominations.
“I was quite nervous to be nominated, but when I got to the awards night the nerves just disappeared because there were so many lovely and welcoming people,” she said.
“Winning for me really helped me see how far I had come within myself. Just being there and having that opportunity was amazing but to also win an award was pretty cool too.”
