Tis the season to celebrate Christmas in Ballarat. Discover the new Christmas Art Trail featuring characters from local author and illustrator Liv Lorkin’s book, Christmas in Ballarat.

Inspired by the children’s picture book Christmas in Ballarat, five murals located around the city will take us on an Art Trail journey this December.

The Art Trail will begin on Doveton Street and finish in the Bridge Mall.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to follow the trail and wander the streets, eating, drinking and shopping locally.

For Liv, designing a trail inspired by her book and its characters, the Wendouree Pals, was an easy decision.

“I walk down the street and there are twinkling lights, the atmosphere really encapsulates the Christmas spirit," Liv says.

“I just love how my home town comes to life with the meaning of Christmas.

"There is something so special and unique about seeing a town that you are living in or have grown up in come to life through a story.”

After completing the trail, families are encouraged to enjoy crowd-favourite Christmas decorations, including the floral reindeer, savour seasonal food and drink and shop at our local retailers, while listening to festive music.

New Christmas decorations designed by local artists, Caroline Keys, Margie Balazic, Melinda Muscat and Sally Gregory, are a welcome addition, adorning the Cedar tree in Sturt Street.

The ornaments feature unique designs inspired by Christmas in Ballarat.

Maps detailing decoration and trail mural locations are now available for collection at the Ballarat Information Centre in Town Hall.
