Ballarat Ageing Well Expo

The City of Ballarat delivers an annual Ballarat Ageing Well Expo. This expo is designed to provide valuable information and resources to people 55 years and over, carers, family members and friends. 

Attendees are provided with the opportunity to learn about the changes to aged care and explore options, services and supports that are available locally to help people age well.

2025 Ballarat Ageing Well Expo Fast Facts

  • 440 people attended Expo
  • 103 stallholders representing 56 organisations.  
  • 235 people attended the guest speaker presentations with an average of 59 people per session.

Age demographic of attendee respondents to feedback survey

  • 2% of those who responded were under 55 years old
  • 11% were aged 55 to 64 years old
  • 41% were aged 65 to 74 years old
  • 40% were aged 75 to 84 years old, and
  • 5% were aged 85 to 94 years old

Top four ways people found out about the Expo

  • Ageing Well Services update (20%)
  • Online inc. social media (17%)
  • From someone they knew (13%), and
  • From the radio (10%)

Top 3 reasons people attended the Expo

  • To increase understanding of local service system (29%)
  • To learn more about ways to age well (21%)
  • To learn more about changes to aged care (18%)

Top two topics people wanted to learn more about

  1. Healthy Ageing – Positive Ageing
  2. Knowing your rights – preparing for the future

What we learned from the Expo

Attendees with health conditions and limited mobility need a greater number of seating options to be placed throughout the expo venue.

Attendees require the presentation area to be a quieter space with a reduced amount of competing background noise, with clear sound to better engage with presentations.

  • 93% of attendee respondents either agreed or strongly agreed that they felt more informed after the event.
  • 96% of attendee respondents either agreed or strongly agreed that there was a good variety of stallholders.
  • 94% of attendee respondents either agreed or strongly agreed that the event was worthwhile.
  • 100% of stallholder respondents said the level of engagement and interest from attendees was good or excellent.
  • 94% of attendee respondents think the Expo should be a regular event. (71% annual, 20% biennial, 9% other).

2025 Ballarat Ageing Well Expo Resources

The first Ballarat Ageing Well Expo was held in March 2025 at the Mercure Ballarat Hotel and Convention Centre. Attendees were able to meet a range of local organisations including aged care services, community-based health, and other support organisations as well as listen to presentations.
