Mount Buninyong access update
The Mount Buninyong Road loop remains closed from the Blackberry Lane turnoff and there is no public access permitted to any of the walking tracks in the area.
We understand there is a desire from the community to reopen the road and walking tracks, but ensuring public safety remains the ultimate priority.
Recent works to restore the area include tree safety assessment and restoration of road infrastructure. However, there is a period of natural recovery and revegetation that needs to occur before the area is deemed safe.
We are continuing to work closely with multiple emergency service agencies to assess the safety of the impacted area, with the aim of reopening as soon as possible.
We will communicate with the community once Mount Buninyong is deemed safe to reopen.
NOTICE OF WORKS
Gillies Road temporary closure
Upgrade works on Gillies Road, along a 380m section from Glendonald Road to the railway line, at Ascot are underway.
- This section of the road is temporarily closed for the duration of the works, which are expected to last about four weeks, weather permitting.
- Traffic delays are expected and motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes where possible.
- Electronic signage boards are in place to advise motorists of the works. Traffic management is in place with detours via Creswick.
- The City of Ballarat has notified directly impacted residents.
- The works include minor tree removal and pruning, drainage construction and road pavement construction.
Chisholm Street Reserve
Trenching and drainage construction works at the former Black Hill Landfill site, at Chisholm Street Reserve, are progressing.
- The work is required to ensure compliance with the Environment Protection Act 2017.
- The project involves installing a landfill gas trench to naturally treat and passively vent any potential landfill gas in waste to the atmosphere.
- It also includes carrying out improvements to stormwater engineering controls to direct stormwater through the landfill, and away from the surface, to avoid water infiltrating into the old landfill.
- Several elements of the works have been completed as planned and re-establishment of grassed areas has commenced at the gas trench and eastern drain location.
- During recent rain events, erosion caused construction issues on the western drain. As a result, further works are required in this section of the reserve.
- Approximately 5ha of the 11ha Chisholm Street Reserve remains open to the public during construction. These areas can still be used as dog off lead spaces.
Help Shape the Ballarat-Carngham Road Upgrade
The Victorian Government is progressing its planning for an upgrade of the Ballarat-Carngham Road between Dyson Drive and Wiltshire Lane to improve safety and cater for population growth.
To help inform the planning, the project team would like to hear from the community on what should be considered as different options are developed.
