The City of Ballarat is calling on all residents to thank an inspirational older person in their lives with a nomination for the 2022 Ballarat Senior of the Year Awards.

The awards are Council’s way of acknowledging Ballarat residents 55 years and older who give their time and efforts back to the Ballarat community.

For our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents, eligibility commences from 50 years or older.

There are five award categories that each focus on an area of interest as well as the overall senior of the year award:

  • the volunteering award

  • the equity, diversity and inclusion award

  • Healthy and active living award

  • Ageing Well award

  • Senior of the year award

City of Ballarat Deputy Mayor, Cr Amy Johnson said the awards are about recognising and acknowledging the valuable contributions older people make to life in Ballarat.

“The older generation in Ballarat provide so much for all of us, whether through clubs and associations or as groups and individuals,” she said.

“About 30 per cent of the Ballarat population is aged 55 or older according to latest census data, and their years of skills, knowledge, and dedication to our city is truly significant.

“If you live or work with a truly special senior in Ballarat, make sure you nominate them for an award.

“By nominating someone you know you are ensuring the outstanding contributions of Senior Ballarat Residents are recognised.”
