Mayor's Message - Thursday 6 April

Mayor Des Hudson and community members and political representatives on Transgender Day of Visibility

Last week we marked the Trans Day of Visibility, with a flag raising and afternoon tea to recognise the experiences and achievements of trans and gender diverse people in the Ballarat community.

Ballarat stands in solidarity with the trans and gender diverse community, and we fully support our trans and gender diverse community members.

We recognise how important it is to support and include trans and gender diverse people fully in community life in Ballarat, and we are committed to ensuring they feel visible, supported and connected to our community.

I am pleased to report, in line with our LGBTIQA+ Inclusion Plan 2022-2026, staff will participate in inclusivity training in the coming months.

It’s hard to believe Easter is now upon us, but I would like to take this opportunity to wish the Ballarat community a wonderful Easter break.

Easter is a great time to spend with family and friends, visiting the many attractions of Ballarat and surrounds and I would encourage everyone to take the opportunity to get out and enjoy the hospitality of our many fine cafes, restaurants, wine bars and retail businesses.

If you are in Ballarat over Easter, why not jump online and visit Ballarat In The Know, to get inspiration about what’s on, things to see and do, and where to get some Easter treats with your friends and family over the holidays.

Wander down to our beautiful Sturt Street Gardens and enjoy the colourful life size eggs and neon installations. They make a wonderful backdrop for a family photo this long weekend.

Stay safe if travelling. Take the time, make sure you stop along the way for rest breaks – we want to see you come home safely at the end of the journey.

Be safe on our roads, look out for each other, look out for yourselves and have a wonderful Easter and long weekend.
