Mayor’s Message - Friday 16 February 2024

Text with The Mayor's Message with an image of Mayor Cr Des Hudson in front of the ongoing Bridge Mall redevelopment

The transformation of our beloved Bridge Mall has recently reached a significant milestone with the commencement of kerbing works marking the seventh-month stage of the redevelopment, which will breathe new life into this historic retail precinct.

It's truly exciting to witness the redevelopment taking shape before our eyes.

Work to revitalise this iconic area has been taking place since July last year and I thank the local traders for their understanding and cooperation during this time.

I also want to acknowledge 2Construct for their meticulous efforts in navigating this live mall environment. Nightwork where possible and staged construction have been undertaken to minimize disruptions, allowing businesses to operate smoothly.

I encourage the community to continue supporting your favourite local businesses in the Bridge Mall, as they remain open and trading during this transformative period.

Soon you may notice distinctive bluestone pavers, some with more than a century of local history, gracing the low-speed carriageway and Time Lane. These blocks, reclaimed from the former La Trobe Street saleyards, symbolize our efforts to preserving Ballarat's rich heritage.

In the next few weeks, crews are also expected to begin the installation of pavers, custom furniture and street furniture, soft landscaping and signage.

The Bridge Mall redevelopment, slated for completion in mid-2024, is not just a construction project – it's a commitment from the City of Ballarat to restore the Bridge Mall as a vibrant hub for shoppers, diners, residents, and visitors alike.

You can keep up-to-date with the latest works at ballarat.vic.gov.au/bridgemalldevelopment and connect with Bridge Mall businesses via shopthebridge.com.au.

The Bridge Mall redevelopment project is another example of our dedication to delivering a better Ballarat.
