The City of Ballarat provides a wide community infrastructure range including community centres, public halls, sports pavilions, aquatic facilities, libraries, early years’ facilities, senior citizens centres and playgrounds.
There is significant work underway to develop and implement a community infrastructure planning and renewal integrated approach.
Currently we are developing a 10-year Community Infrastructure Plan to ensure it responds to the areas of highest need and allows projects to capitalise on funding opportunities.
There will be many opportunities for the community and facility user groups to have input in the plan’s development.
It is intended the plan includes:

•    Community infrastructure gaps and service requirements across the municipality
•    Recommended projects

I would also like to congratulate the State Government, Regional Development Victoria and the Department of Premier and Cabinet for the fantastic GovHub project that officially opened last week and is expected to provide a $100 million boost to our local economy, will help revitalise a major part of the Ballarat CBD, generate long-term job growth and increase business confidence and private sector investment in our city.

The focus on integration with both our Civic Hall and Ballarat Library sites is also a valuable project element, creating a unique precinct that will include shared spaces that can be used for cafes, bars, galleries, live music venues and a civic plaza that will help bring Mair Street to life and provide a valuable link with Armstrong Street’s retail and hospitality outlets.

This precinct will also offer strong pedestrians links to the Ballarat CBD and the Ballarat Railway Station that will suit both locals and Melbourne commuters alike.
