Forget your resident ‘binfluencer’ – download the Ballarat Waste app

Download the Ballarat Waste App
Do you wait to watch the ‘binfluencer’ in your street put out their bin to work out which colour bin goes out on what night?
Take the lead and download the free Ballarat Waste app which puts all your local waste and recycling information right at your fingertips.
More than 4,400 residents across the Ballarat municipality have so far downloaded the app.
By accessing the in-app calendar, residents with the app have already discovered that there are no changes to waste collection services over the upcoming Easter and ANZAC Day public holidays.
With the Ballarat Waste app you can:
- Access kerbside collection schedules and set bin night reminders
- Receive notifications of any changes to bin collections, including public holiday services
- Search by item in the A-Z of Waste section to discover whether the item should be placed into your recycling, green waste or your general household waste bin
- Log a missed collection or damaged bin
- View the Ballarat Transfer Station’s opening hours, fees and a list of what can be taken to the Transfer Station for free
- Receive notifications about the Ballarat Transfer Station including service interruptions and upcoming promotions such as Free Green Waste Week, and
- Read all of the City of Ballarat’s latest waste and recycling news alerts.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Tracey Hargreaves said the Ballarat Waste app will be an important tool for residents as the municipality transitions to food organics and garden organics (FOGO) and glass kerbside collections in November this year.
“As we prepare to roll out FOGO and glass kerbside collections, the waste app gives residents the confidence to know what goes where, when to put out which bin, and how to make a real difference for our environment,” she said.
"The Ballarat Waste app is one way of delivering information right to our residents’ hands.”
From November, food waste can be added to households’ FOGO (current green waste) bin with the lime green lid.
Food organics includes fruit and vegetable scraps, raw and cooked meat and bones, citrus, leftovers, seafood, shellfish shells and eggshells.
General household waste collection will continue to be collected weekly and mixed recycling collection will remain fortnightly.
A new monthly glass collection with a purple-lid bin will also begin in November.
More information about the waste collection changes will be provided to residents in the lead up to the introduction of the FOGO and glass services.
Download the app via the App Store or on Google Play.
