The City of Ballarat has welcomed the promise from the Australian Labor Party recently that it will commit $1 million to the redevelopment of the Brown Hill Reserve if it retains government at the 26 November Victorian state election.

City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Daniel Moloney said the reserve is much loved by the local community and will be increasingly important as a community leisure and recreation space as residential growth increases in the Springs Road area of Brown Hill.

Community consultation on a draft master plan for Brown Hill Reserve commenced earlier this year and included an online mySay survey, community drop-in session and discussions with user groups at the reserve.

Work on the draft master plan has also taken into consideration initial community engagement undertaken by the Brown Hill Progress Association in 2021.

The finalised Brown Hill Reserve master plan will be a guiding document that clarifies and identifies improvements and future projects for the Reserve and will be used by the City of Ballarat to inform future capital works.

The project is a Tier 3 priority project of local significance for the City of Ballarat.

Cr Moloney said he hoped to see this funding commitment for Brown Hill matched by all sides of politics to ensure its timely delivery for local residents and for business.

The promise was made via media announcement and release by the Member for Buninyong and ALP candidate for the new seat of Eureka, Michaela Settle.
