Ballarat thrilled to host A-League Women fixtures

Ballarat will host two A-League women fixtures in the 2022/23 season.

The City of Ballarat is thrilled to welcome Western United Football Club back to Ballarat for two A-League Women matches for the upcoming season.

The matches, to be played for premiership points, will be held at the Ballarat Regional Soccer Facility (BRSF).

The 2022/23 Liberty A-League Women season will be the first time Western United has fielded a female side in Australia’s elite competition, with the club having been part of the men's competition since the 2019/20 season.

The fixtures are as follows:

  • Round 13 Western United v Perth Glory – Saturday 4 February 2023, kick-off at 3pm
  • Round 16 Western United v Sydney FC – Sunday 5 March 2023, kick-off at 4pm

City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Daniel Moloney welcomed the news of the fixture, which he said further cemented the strong partnership between Western United and the City of Ballarat.

“We treasure the strong relationship we have with Western United and having the women’s side playing home games in Ballarat only makes that connection stronger,” he said.

“We have loved hosting the men’s side for the last two seasons, and we know the women’s side is going to be just as exciting.

“To be able to host matches of this quality at Morshead Park is a further testament to our investment at the venue.”

The BRSF is Ballarat’s crown for regional soccer and has hosted both international and Australian teams including Bahrain, The Matildas and Melbourne Victory.

The Western United men’s side played one match at BRSF in the 2021-22 season and two at Mars Stadium, before going on to win its inaugural A-League premiership.

Western United will play its first A-League Women match against Melbourne Victory on Saturday November 19.

The men’s side has already been locked in to play two Ballarat matches at Mars Stadium for the upcoming 2022/23 season, set to host Newcastle Jets on January 15 2023 and Central Coast Mariners on April 7 2023.
