Changes to City of Ballarat facilities



In line with current advice from the federal and state governments, the following City of Ballarat facilities are temporarily closed:

  • Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre 
  • Art Gallery of Ballarat
  • Her Majesty's Theatre 
  • Civic Hall
  • Ballarat Mining Exchange
  • Ballarat Libraries 
  • Eureka Centre - Home of the Eureka Flag (102 Stawell St South, Ballarat)
  • Parent Place 
  • Eureka Aquatic Facility 
  • City of Ballarat playgrounds: Adventure Playground at Wendouree Parade (Lake Wendouree), Inclusive Play Space at Victoria Park (Newington) and Eureka Playground at Eureka Stockade (Ballarat Central)
  • City of Ballarat skatepark facilities
  • Off-leash dog parks
  • Robert Clark Horticultural Centre and Conservatory 
  • Lucas Community Hub Further information here


The following services have been modified: 

  • City of Ballarat Customer Service Centres (staff taking calls seven days a week between 8.15am-5pm, please call 5320 5500)
  • Ballarat Information Centre and Town Hall (staff still taking calls, please call 1800 44 66 33)
  • Ballarat Animal Shelter (phone in advance, and no cash sales)
  • Gillies Street Transfer Station (this facility remains open on weekdays (8am – 4pm) and weekends (10am – 4pm), but is currently only accepting vouchers from residents and card-based payment.)
  • Ballarat Regional Soccer Facility (no cash sales)
  • Maternal Child Health services (applicable to all locations)  consultations predominantly held by telephone, or other electronic means. A MCH nurse will contact you at the time of your scheduled appointment. Further information here
  • Immunisation services – appointment-based. Please do not attend if unwell. Further information here. 
  • Childcare programs – Wendouree Children’s Centre, Girrabanya Children’s Centre and Family Day Care are still operating. The City of Ballarat is prioritising childcare for essential service workers.
    Centre-based childcare is available for children up to school age, with family day care (offering low educator to child ratios in a home-based environment) available for children aged up to 12. For further information contact

The following services, which are run by City of Ballarat, remain unchanged:

  • Meals on Wheels 
  • In-home support
  • Household waste and recycling collection
  • Pass on Glass drop-off sites
  • Parks and Gardens, including the Ballarat Botanical Gardens
  • Rapid response (infrastructure and maintenance)
  • Street cleaning and sanitation of public bins
  • Municipal Emergency Management
  • Building and Planning (by appointment only)
