Community and Business Support Package

City of Ballarat's $1 million grant package aims to supplement existing funding available from federal and state governments, while also supporting some of the small businesses and community groups not eligible for financial assistance through other funding programs.

Business grants

Business Support Grants of up to $500 are available for businesses with a significant reduction in revenue as a result of COVID-19.

To be eligible for a Business Support Grant, you

  • operate within the City of Ballarat municipal boundary
  • maintain an ABN registered within the municipality
  • demonstrate* a turnover reduction of 30%** or greater for a period of four weeks (can be non-consecutive weeks) since 27 May 2021 
  • not have already received a City of Ballarat business support package grant (excluding waivers listed below)
  • not have an annual payroll exceeding $1 million.

Submit a business support grant application

Applications will be assessed as they are received.

Applications will close at 5pm on Friday 29 October unless grant funding has been distributed before this date.

*Evidence of a reduction in turnover will vary for applicants. Ideally a business will be able to provide historical BAS statements or a letter from an Accountant on letter head. However in circumstances where this is not possible, City of Ballarat will consider a statutory declaration from the business operator / owner outlining their reduction in turnover.
**Based on an average operating week when restrictions were not applicable.

    Community grants

    Community Support Grants of up to $250 are available for community groups, volunteer groups and sports clubs with a significant reduction in revenue due to COVID-19. 

    To be eligible for a Community Support Grant, your organisation must

    • operate within the City of Ballarat municipal boundary
    • be registered or incorporated
    • demonstrate* a negative financial impact during the restriction period which commenced on 27 May 2021 
    • not already have received a City of Ballarat community support package grant (excluding waivers listed below).

    Submit a community support grant application

    Applications will be assessed as they are received.

    Applications will close at 5pm on Friday 29 October unless grant funding has been distributed before this date.

    *Evidence of a negative financial impact will vary for applicants. Ideally a community or sporting organisation will be able to provide historical BAS statements however in circumstances where this is not possible, we will consider a letter from an accountant on letter head or a letter from a senior office bearer of the organisation (e.g. Treasurer, Secretary, etc.).

    More support and relief measures

    We will continue to support our local businesses by:

    • waiving interest on outstanding rates for the 2021/22 financial year
    • continuing to apply our COVID-19 Financial Hardship Policy to support residents and businesses in genuine need of support during the 2021/22 financial year 
    • waiving outdoor dining permit fees until 30 June 2022 
    • waiving A-Frame signage permit fees until 30 June 2022
    • re-establishing our Business Contact Centre. Our team will engage with local business to help them access available federal, state and local funding programs and other assistance available.
