The City of Ballarat is installing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at Central Square Car Park and the City of Ballarat’s depot in preparation for the arrival of a new fleet of EVs.

Six charging stations are being installed at the car park and two at the depot to power the organisation’s fleet vehicles as part of a transition to more sustainable transport.

The installation of the EV charging stations is supported by the City of Ballarat and the Victorian State Government through the EV Charging for Council Fleets Program.

Two EVs are expected to arrive in Ballarat in the coming months. The City of Ballarat will replace older fleet cars each financial year as required.

The use of EVs in the City of Ballarat fleet aligns with goal one of the Council Plan 2021-2025: an environmentally sustainable future. It also aligns with the City of Ballarat Carbon Neutrality and 100% Renewables Action Plan 2019–2025.

City of Ballarat Councillor Belinda Coates said the City of Ballarat is committed to proactively addressing climate change and adopting sustainable practices both within the organisation and in the community.

“The installation of the charging stations for the City of Ballarat EV fleet is just one way we are following up our commitments to sustainability with action,” she said.

“Council is in a strong position to lead and enable our communities to effectively embrace renewable energy and carbon reduction initiatives.”
