About the City of Ballarat

Ballarat is a city of communities and is home to a diverse group of people, each contributing their own culture, ideas and aspirations to Ballarat’s identity. The city’s story is one of layered change. The city’s urban form was quickly established during the Victorian gold rushes and today includes distinctive settlement patterns and a significant number of historic buildings, public art, historic collections, gardens and public places. Ballarat values this legacy and it contributes greatly to the liveability of the city, providing a solid basis for ongoing economic prosperity.
