Road Management Plan
The Road Management Plan 2017 demonstrates Council's undertaking and methodology to manage the road network under its control. It documents the types of road infrastructure, such as road pavements, gutters, footpaths, bridges, major culverts for which the City of Ballarat is responsible for. The plan also shows the maintenance intervention levels, the methodology of inspections, the rectification response and documents the hierarchy of roads and paths throughout the municipality. The City of Ballarat Road Register (see PDF links below) documents the status and types of roads with regard to hierarchy and inspection/intervention levels.
Council is responsible for maintaining just over 300km of unsealed roads. In 2005, Council introduced the Sealing Of Unsealed Roads Policy. The purpose of the policy is to assess potential unsealed roads to be sealed by using certain criteria. These criteria include traffic volume, traffic speeds, maintenance levels and type of vehicles using the road. Development in the area and the impact on future road uses are also considered. If you would like to request the sealing of an unsealed road, it must be in writing and addressed to:Infrastructure Planning, City of Ballarat, PO Box 655, Ballarat VIC 3353.
