The Ballarat Strategy acknowledges the importance of understanding the character, community and lifestyles associated with our township communities. As such, the Strategy identifies the need to undertake Township Planning for Learmonth, Cardigan Village, Burrumbeet, Warrenheip, Buninyong and Miners Rest.
The Learmonth Community has been working closely with Council officers to complete the first of these plans, ‘The Learmonth Plan: Our Township Towards 2040’. The plan provides the Learmonth Community with a long-term vision and action plan. It will help the community and the City of Ballarat manage change into the future.
The proposed new land use planning controls, which have been proposed to implement the actions of the plan can also be downloaded. The planning tools include proposed lot layout controls, which set site setback, coverage and permeability limits, to help protect the existing valued layout of housing in Learmonth.
What happens next?
The Learmonth Plan will be formally presented to the City of Ballarat Councillors soon, with a request to undertake an Amendment to the Ballarat Planning Scheme to bring the proposed new planning tools into effect
Through the future ‘Amendment’ stage, residents will be given an additional opportunity to provide feedback on the proposed land use planning controls and directions
Once the Plan has been presented to Councillors the Learmonth Community and Council officers can start working on the actions identified.
