Work on the Ballarat East Local Area Plan has progressed with the release of the Imagine Ballarat East: Directions Paper – Our Pathway Forward.

In 2015, the City of Ballarat started a conversation with the community about how to better manage change in Ballarat East through a new Local Area Plan.

The Ballarat East Local Area Plan, also known as Imagine Ballarat East, will develop a vision for a sustainable future

The project is being delivered as a Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) pilot project.

The local area planning process for Ballarat East is being undertaken in two key stages:

  • Stage 1 – Background research, engagement and Discussion Paper (completed December 2016)
  • Stage 2 – Directions Paper and Local Area Plan (current)

In December 2015, the community conversation started with a small number of representatives who discussed the boundary of Ballarat East and key areas within this bondary they considered important to them. From this, a draft Community Map was created.

In March 2016, a number of community workshops and surveys were held. The City of Ballarat heard from the community about their aspirations for the future of Ballarat East. This feedback helped to form the Imagine Ballarat East: Discussion Paper
