Road conditions in Ballarat

19 September 2022 8:39am

The following statement is in response to enquiries from the Herald Sun regarding the condition of Ballarat's roads.

Statement attributable to Infrastructure and Environment Director, Bridget Wetherall

The City of Ballarat’s Roads Maintenance team has been working hard to find temporary solutions to repair potholes during a wetter than average winter.

In August, Ballarat received 106mm of rain, well above the average of 74.1mm.

There were only five days where rain was not recorded for the month, making repair patching works difficult.

The wet weather means crews are limited in their scope for major repair works, which requires warm and dry weather for works to be carried out.

During spring and summer, longer term repair works will be carried out for roads deemed the highest priority.

From March 1 2021 - August 31 2021 there were 1489 defects actioned on 450 sealed roads.

From March 1 2022 - August 31 2022 there were 1381 defects actioned on 416 sealed roads.
