Friends of the Anson Air Museum, Airport Road, Ballarat
The historic gymnasium of the former RAAF base has for 15 years been the home, museum, workshop and repository for the Friends of the Anson – a group dedicated to the restoration of an Avro Anson aircraft. With little outside help, the Anson Air Museum has built up both an authentic Anson and in interesting exhibition about the Second World War and Australia’s aviation involvement. Many ‘fragments’ have been brought together to make a complete story of the Anson and the Ballarat Airfield during the war years, including an aircraft fuselage, aircraft parts and a wide range of support material like radio and radar equipment, clothes, old plates and newspaper cuttings. The work of a few dedicated individuals leaves a worthy legacy to Ballarat as a whole.
