The Ballarat Transfer Station accepts residential green waste, hard waste, recycling, and chemical waste.

Who can use the Transfer Station

Residents in Ballarat and surrounds can dispose of residential quantities of waste at the Transfer Station.

The transfer station is not for commercial waste disposal.

There are different prices for City of Ballarat Residents and Non City of Ballarat Residents, please ensure you bring photo ID with you.

What you can and can’t dispose of

Preparing and sorting your waste

Sorting your load and having it clearly separated will save you time at the gate house and will potentially reduce your disposal fees.

  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Steel
  • Household recycling (newspapers, magazines, plastic bottles and containers, aluminium cans)
  • Cardboard
  • Green waste
  • Hard waste (furniture etc)
  • General household waste
  • Textiles
  • E-Waste

  • Chemicals

Conditions of site entry

For your safety while onsite, please ensure the following requirements are met:

  • Place waste in marked areas only
  • Obey all signage
  • Follow directions from staff
  • Enclosed footwear must be worm
  • Take care when unloading
  • No smoking at any time
  • Keep children and pets inside vehicle
  • Gloves to be worn when unloading
  • Beware of heavy machinery
  • Maintain 10km/h speed limit

Customers are responsible for their own safety while in this facility.

Resale shed

Do you have old items in usable condition?

Residents can use the resale shed for their unwanted items that are still in good condition and can shop there and upcycle items as well.

Items such as bikes, play equipment, and other garage sale items can be resold, saving them from landfill.

Opening hours

Monday-Friday: 8am-4pm.
Weekends: 10am-4pm.
Public holidays: 10am-4pm.
Closed: Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Anzac Day and Good Friday

Please note: In extreme weather events the Ballarat Transfer Station is subject to closure including:

  • Temperatures exceeding 38 degrees Celsius
  • High winds with gusts exceeding 60km/hr
  • Restrictions due to fire ban warnings or similar

Weekdays: Busiest between 11am–12pm. Quieter before 10.30am or after 1pm
Weekends: Busy all day, allow extra time.
Tip: Sort and secure your load before arriving for faster service.
