The Art Gallery of Ballarat has reopened to visitors.

The gallery has six great exhibitions for you to see, as well as a refresh of our collection display.

As part of its COVID Safe plan, the gallery will be open for visitors in two ticketed sessions, from 10am to 1pm and from 2pm to 5pm daily. Entry will be from Police Lane-Alfred Deakin Place.

Once you have reserved your free tickets for the session of your choice, you will be able to enter the gallery at any time during that session.

Tickets should be reserved in advance and visitors who arrive without a ticket risk missing out if the gallery is fully booked for that session.

Back in the swim - BALC reopens

BALC reopens

The Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre (BALC) reopened last week, with the centre excited to be welcome customers back.

Although BALC is operating a little differently to what many are used to, customers have adapted to the new booking system while restrictions and capacity limits are also in place.
Memberships remain suspended however customers can now make an online booking to access a range of BALC facilities, including the health club, group fitness classes and a casual swim in any of our pools.

The BALC Café Lifestyle and Children’s Centre have also reopened while Swim School and Gymnastics students are now returning, with most of the classes booked to capacity for a special 6-week block.
Remember if you are planning to visit, you will need to make a booking online and pay before you arrive - and wear your mask!

COVID-19 update

As we move towards a COVID normal for work, education and living, please continue to remember the importance of physical distancing, wearing a fitted face mask and hand hygiene to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

Victoria is now in the state-wide Third Step restrictions which include:

  • travel between regional Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne
  • you can have up to 2 people visit you at home each day, as well as dependents if they cannot be left unattended or cared for in another setting. The two people may be from different households and may visit separately
  • outdoor gatherings in a public place are limited to up to 10 people, infants under 12 are not included in the cap

Find out more about the latest restrictions here.

A few key points -

Daily COVID Safe Pre-Start Checklist Form - If leaving home for work purposes, to undertake work in the community or at a City of Ballarat site, workers must complete the Daily COVID-Safe Pre-Start Checklist Form. The Form takes about 30 seconds to complete and can be done on the computer, iPad, or smart phone. We ask that you share the link and place the QR scan code poster around your worksites.

Restricted access to Town Hall, Gordon and Phoenix remains – Access to these sites remains off limits to staff aside from exceptional circumstances. Staff must go through their managers or executive managers to request access and then refer these to Executive Manager Property and Facilities Darren Sadler.

Working from home – Under DHHS guidelines, if you can work from home, you must work from home.

Victorian Protective Data Security Standards

Over the past two years, City of Ballarat staff have been working to implement the Victorian Protective Data Security Standards.

These are a legislative requirement under the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014.

The Standards require the City of Ballarat to identify its information assets, assess their value and apply controls in accordance with those values.

A part of this process is to assign Sensitivity Labels (sometimes called Protective Markings) to documents, including emails. The Sensitivity Labels will be compulsory from 1 December 2020 but are currently activated for use by staff.

Sensitivity Label

The Sensitivity Labels include:

UNOFFICIAL – for documents or emails which are not work related

OFFICIAL – for documents and emails which are work related

OFFICIAL: Sensitive – for documents and emails which are work related and which contain information which is determined as sensitive to the organisation

PROTECTED – for documents and emails which, if compromised, would have a major impact on the organisation

You will find the Sensitivity labelling tool in the Message tool bar, above.

Online training for Managing Records and Information Security is now available here and should be completed by 1 December 2020.

Additional information on Sensitivity Labelling can be found by clicking Help and Feedback in the Sensitivity tab above.

In the Office 365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), staff will be prompted to add a Sensitivity label to all new documents. This will also become compulsory on 1 December 2020. The process will be similar to the email process and you will be unable to save a document without first adding an appropriate sensitivity label.

If you have any queries regarding the labelling process, please contact a member of the Governance team.
