What can go in your mixed recycling bin?
- Aerosol cans (empty)
- Aluminium and steel cans
- Aluminium foil scrunched into a ball larger than a golf ball
- Clean paper and cardboard
- Deodorant cans and bottles (empty)
- Egg cartons
- Magazines
- Newspaper
- Office paper
- Pizza boxes (clean of food and oils)
- Plastics bottles and containers with recycling codes 1,2 and 5
- Shampoo and conditioner bottles (empty)
- Shredded paper (if enclosed in an unwaxed cardboard box or paper bag)
- Telephone books
- Tissue boxes with plastic removed
- Toilet rolls (empty)
- Wrapping paper and gift wrap (no sticky tape)
What can’t go in your mixed recycling bin?
- Bagged mixed recyclables (keep your recyclable items loose)
- Coffee cups
- Glass bottles and jars
- Paper towel and tissues
- Plastics items with recycling codes 3, 4, 6 and 7
- Building waste, including metals and wood
- Soft plastics including plastics bags, plastic food wrappers, plastic wrap and bubble wrap*

What happens to the recyclable materials once collected?
Recyclable items placed in your yellow lid bin is sent to APR (Australian Paper Recovery), a materials recovery facility in Truganina, where it is sorted and recycled on site or sent to other locations for recycling into new items.
