- Crockery and ceramics
- Disposable nappies
- Drinking glasses
- Incandescent light bulbs and halogen lamps
- Mirrors and broken window glass
- Soft plastics including plastic bags, plastic food wrappers, plastic wrap and bubble wrap
- Plastic items with recycling codes 3, 4, 6 and 7
- Polystyrene and foam
- Pet waste and kitty litter
- Heat proof dishes e.g. Pyrex

Where does my waste go?
Household waste placed in your red lid (or dark green lid) bin goes to the Ballarat Regional Landfill. Almost 22,000 tonnes of waste was sent to landfill in the 2024/25 financial year from 53,000 homes.

How can I reduce what goes into my household waste bin?
Ensure you are separating your waste correctly from recyclable materials that can be placed in either the mixed recycling bin, FOGO bin or glass bin.
