Share your ideas for the new Ageing Well in Ballarat Strategy
The City of Ballarat is calling on community members to help shape the Ageing Well in Ballarat Strategy and Action Plan 2027–2030. The strategy is a key roadmap to support residents aged 55 and over to thrive.
Almost one in three Ballarat residents are aged 55 or older, and more than one in six people aged 65–74 remain active in the workforce. As Ballarat’s population continues to age, Council is committed to building an accessible and supportive city where every resident can participate fully and confidently, however they choose.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Tracey Hargreaves, is encouraging residents to get involved.
“In 2024, Ballarat proudly joined the WHO Global Network for Age‑Friendly Cities and Communities, strengthening our commitment to ensuring Ballarat is an age-friendly community,” Cr Hargreaves said.
“Our goal is to ensure that Ballarat remains a place where people of all ages feel supported to age well.
“The feedback of residents aged 50 and over is important to ensure that the strategy reflects the needs and aspirations of our community.”
The revised strategy will guide the City of Ballarat’s work over the next four years, shaping programs, services, events, projects and communications.
In recent years, the strategy has delivered a wide range of initiatives that support older residents to stay active, connected and informed. These include new seniors outdoor exercise parks, transport and road safety workshops, community expos, campaigns to address ageism, expanded social connection opportunities, and lifelong learning programs covering housing options, financial wellbeing, healthy ageing and navigating ageing well services.
Consultation on the Ageing Well in Ballarat Strategy 2027-2030 is now open. Community consultation closes Sunday, 31 May 2026.
