Ring Road Closure

Ring Road has been temporarily closed pending Council considering a permanent discontinuance at the Council meeting on 25 February 2026.

This closure is a key part of delivering the $55 million Ballarat Freight Hub project, which is scheduled for completion in 2026.

Without the Ring Road discontinuance, freight trains entering and exiting the freight hub would block the road for lengthy periods of time resulting in significant delays and congestion for motorists.

Access is still available to all businesses. Barriers have been installed to temporarily close Ring Road as a through road.

Link Road was built in anticipation of the future closure of Ring Road. Vehicles are required to use Link Road as the alternative route.

Construction of the Freight Hub will commence soon. Once the Freight Hub works are completed, road works will be undertaken to formalise the Ring Road discontinuance.

Community members seeking further information about the freight hub can visit the Australian Government website for Regional Development.
