New community and youth representatives sought for Ballarat Heritage Advisory Committee
The City of Ballarat is seeking expressions of interest from community members with a passion for local heritage matters.
The City of Ballarat is calling for expressions of interest from community members to join the Ballarat Heritage Advisory Committee. The two current vacancies are for a Community Representative and a Youth Representative, aged 18 – 25 years.
The Ballarat Heritage Advisory Committee plays a vital role in providing advice and recommendations to Council on heritage matters, including the conservation of heritage places and collections, delivering the Ballarat Heritage Plan 2017–2030, and identifying opportunities for external funding to support heritage initiatives.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Tracey Hargreaves said the committee is an important link between Council and the community on heritage issues.
“Ballarat’s heritage is one of our greatest assets, and we want to ensure voices from across our community, including young people, are part of the conversation about how we protect and celebrate it,” Cr Hargreaves said.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone passionate about history and heritage to contribute to shaping the future of our city.”
The committee meets bi-monthly and includes representatives from the community and local organisations who bring skills and expertise in heritage, history and conservation.
Cr Hargreaves encouraged interested individuals to apply.
“We’re looking for people who can share fresh ideas and perspectives, and who are committed to preserving Ballarat’s unique character for generations to come,” she said.
Applicants must demonstrate an interest or experience in heritage-related areas and be able to attend meetings either in person or online. The roles are voluntary, and successful applicants will be required to complete a Working with Children Check (if applicable) and an online OHS volunteer induction.
Expressions of Interest should address the selection criteria and be submitted by 5pm, 27 February 2026 to katrinaring@ballarat.vic.gov.au.
