Mayor's Message - 2 October 2026
October is a wonderful time to celebrate the people, stories and connections that make our community so special, and I am pleased to welcome the return of the Ballarat Seniors Festival for 2026.
As part of the Victorian Seniors Festival, this year's theme, Connect, Create, Celebrate, highlights the importance of staying active, building meaningful relationships and embracing opportunities to learn and grow at every stage of life.
The Ballarat Seniors Festival has become a much-loved fixture on our community calendar, bringing together residents from across the municipality through a diverse and inclusive program of activities. This year, more than 100 events and experiences are on offer, providing something to suit a wide range of interests and abilities.
Throughout October, older residents can enjoy guided tours, walking groups, fitness and wellbeing activities, workshops, social gatherings, movie screenings, sporting opportunities and community open days. Whether you are keen to meet new people, revisit a favourite hobby or try something entirely new, the festival offers countless opportunities to get involved.
I am particularly pleased to see a strong focus on supporting wellbeing and social connection, with the City of Ballarat's Ageing Well Services delivering a range of free activities for residents aged 55 and over. Initiatives such as the Bring Your Bills Day will also provide valuable access to practical advice, information and support from local service providers.
The festival is also a chance to recognise and celebrate the enormous contribution older people make to our community every day. Through volunteering, mentoring, caring for family members, sharing their knowledge and helping build stronger neighbourhoods, older residents play a vital role in making Ballarat the welcoming and connected city it is today.
I encourage all older residents, along with their families, friends and carers, to explore the program and take part in the many events on offer throughout October. Whether you attend one event or several, I hope you take the opportunity to connect, create and celebrate with others in our community.
