The City of Ballarat is seeking community feedback on the four-bin kerbside service as the six month roll out milestone is reached.

The Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) and glass collection services were implemented in November 2025, as mandated by the Victorian Government. By July 2027, all Victorian councils must provide a four-stream waste service to households that receive waste and recycling collections.

The City of Ballarat wants to hear from its residents as to how they have experienced the transition and how they’d like to see it continue in the future.

A survey has been launched where the community is encouraged to share their feedback as to how the system is working for them.

The survey asks residents about their current use of bins, their experience with the kerbside service, and their preferences for collection frequency.

The findings will help inform a 12-month service review, to be presented to Council at the end of 2026.

City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Tracey Hargreaves emphasised the importance of hearing from the community in helping shape the future of the four-bin system.

“We know waste is an issue that affects every household in Ballarat, so it is vital we find the best solution possible,” she said.

“We want to hear from as many community members as possible to gain the best insight into how people are finding the four bin system.”

What has been the impact of the four-bin system so far?

A total of 8,380 tonnes of FOGO has already been collected. This is the equivalent of 90,500 full lime lid green bins.

A total of 765 tonnes of glass has also been collected. This is the equivalent of 15,700 full purple lid bins.

By diverting this waste away from landfill, the four‑bin system is helping turn food waste into compost and glass into new products.

How can people provide feedback?

The survey is now live on the City of Ballarat MySay page and will remain open until October 2026.

It takes about three minutes to complete comprising a series of multiple-choice questions about people using their bins.

Hard copies of the survey are also available to download off the MySay page, while copies are also available at the Phoenix Building at 25 Armstrong Street South.

People can also call 5320 5500 and request a survey to be delivered by mail out for free.
