Grenville Street North has been reopened for the busy holiday shopping period

The Grenville Street North upgrades have been put on pause, with the road reopened just in time for the busy holiday season, giving shoppers and visitors easier access to Bridge Mall and surrounding businesses.

This pause in works is deliberate and was built into the project timeline from the start. It allows the new road surface to settle properly and ensures the community can enjoy a stress-free shopping experience during Christmas and New Year.

This is only the beginning. There is still much to do to bring the full vision to life, with landscaping, greenery and finishing touches set to create a vibrant, welcoming space.

Once the holiday period concludes and the road has settled, Stage Two will begin, delivering a safer, greener and more connected precinct.

City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Tracey Hargreaves said this is one element of a much bigger picture.

“This is not a standalone project. The Grenville Street upgrades tie into the Bridge Mall Precinct redevelopment. Together these upgrades will create a vibrant, connected heart for Ballarat that celebrates our heritage while embracing the future.”

Stage Two works will introduce new shared paths, raised crossings, trees, gardens, seating, and improved lighting, making the area a true destination for pedestrians and cyclists alike.

“We want a city that works for commuters, families, and those who enjoy the outdoors. These improvements will make it more inviting for people to choose an active lifestyle.”

Stage Two works are set to commence early in the new year but for now, the street is open and the community is invited to Shop the Bridge and support local business.
