City of Ballarat welcomes Northern Growth Area announcement
From 19 September, the community will be able to provide feedback on the Ballarat North Precinct Structure Plan.
The City of Ballarat has welcomed the commencement of public exhibition for the Ballarat North Precinct Structure Plan (PSP) and Development Contribution Plan (DCP).
On Friday the State Government announced that community members would be invited to view the plans and provide feedback on Ballarat’s Northern Growth Area, located approximately eight kilometres north of the Ballarat Central Business District.
Recently rezoned to the Urban Growth Zone, the plan accommodates 5,600 new homes for our city, and incorporates key infrastructure for a thriving community such as:
- A neighbourhood activity centre
- A local convenience centre
- Community facilities
- Sports reserves
- Primary schools
- A secondary school
- Areas for local parks.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Tracey Hargreaves said the announcement marks an important step in planning for Ballarat’s future growth.
"Community consultation is key to ensuring that a variety of housing opportunities for current and future residents are provided,” she said.
“We look forward to working collaboratively with the State Government and the community throughout this process to deliver a high-quality outcome that supports liveability, sustainability and accommodates the changing needs of our growing city.”
Consultation for the draft plans will open on Friday, 19 September. Community members will be able to view the draft plans and make a submission via the Engage Victoria website.
Full details of the project can be found on the Victorian Planning Authority’s website.
