Draft Governance Rules

We have developed new draft Governance Rules and a draft Public Transparency Policy as required by the new Local Government Act 2020 and to further reinforce Council's strong commitment to good governance and transparent decision making.

However, we would like to consult with our community before finalising these documents to ensure we are meeting community expectations.

We welcome any feedback on the draft Governance Rules and Public Transparency Policy by 5pm on Wednesday 5 August 2020.

Draft Public Transparency Policy

We have developed a draft Public Transparency Policy as required by the new Local Government Act 2020 and to further reinforce Council's strong commitment to good governance and transparent decision making.

However, we would like to consult with our community before finalising this documents to ensure we are meeting community expectations.

Draft Common Seal and Meeting Conduct Local Law

We have begun to develop a new Common Seal and Meeting Conduct Local Law to replace Meeting Procedure Local Law 2018.

The matters addressed by the proposed Common Seal and Meeting Conduct Local Law include the following:

· Regulation and use of Council’s Common Seal;

· Meeting conduct requirements; and

· Offences.

A copy of the draft Common Seal and Meeting Conduct Local Law together with a Community Impact Statement has been prepared and are available for viewing here and for inspection at the Ballarat Library, 178 Doveton Street North, Ballarat.

Any person may make a written submission to Council under section 223 of the Local Government Act 1989.

Written submissions must be received by the City of Ballarat by 5pm, 5 August 2020.

Written submissions should be addressed to the Executive Manager Safety, Risk and Compliance Services, City of Ballarat and sent by mail to: PO Box 655, Ballarat 3353.

Submissions will be presented at the 12 August Ordinary Council meeting. The proposed Local Law will be then considered at the additional Council meeting to be held on 26 August 2020.
