Safety initiatives

Neighbour Day

Neighbour Day, celebrated every year on the last Sunday in March, encourages small, everyday actions such as saying hello or lending a hand. This helps create a sense of belonging for ourselves and for those around us. Community connection can help boost wellbeing and reduce isolation and loneliness and assist with open communication, reducing crime and keeping property safe. A well-connected neighbourhood is a safe neighbourhood.

You can get involved by visiting your local library or local community hub in person during the last week of March to discover how you can be a great neighbour everyday.

Visit Neighbours Every Day for more information and ways to connect safely with others in your neighbourhood.

Community Crime Prevention - Urban design and crime

Good urban design can help make public places safer.

Urban design is the practice of shaping the built environment, including buildings, streets, public spaces and neighbourhoods, to improve the liveability of cities and towns. When a place is designed well, it provides social, cultural, economic and environmental benefits including increased civic engagement and greater resiliency.

DV Safe Phone

Your old phone will support a life.

For domestic violence (DV) victims, access to a safe phone can mean the difference between life and death. Perpetrators often use phones to control and monitor their victims, leaving them isolated and without a secure way to keep in contact with friends and family or seek help.

At DV Safe Phone, we give your old phone a new purpose by helping DV victims stay connected, stay safe, and move forward towards a brighter future. We collect, repurpose and gift mobile phones to domestic violence (DV) victims. These 'safe phones' are a vital link to emergency services, support networks, and loved ones.
