Market Street Car Parking Redevelopment

The City of Ballarat, with Regional Development Victoria, is redeveloping Market Street, between Midland Highway/Doveton Street North and Armstrong Street North.

Plans showing the market street car

The project will:

  • Provide about 36 additional free car parking spaces, for use by Ballarat community

  • Change Market Street to one‐way, heading from Midland Highway east towards Armstrong Street, to enable the additional parking and address pedestrian safety

  • Improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians crossing Market Street from Doveton Street North to Ballarat Library, by reducing road lanes from three to one and installation of a new raised crossing

  • Extend high quality landscaping from the GovHub precinct into Market Street, to support street appeal for businesses

  • Maintain driveways for existing businesses in the upgraded Market Street

The works will also include the removal of the weighbridge and associated infrastructure, which will be completed separately prior to the main redevelopment works.

The changes will result in improved street frontage for adjacent businesses and a safer experience for visitors to the area.

The above plans are not final and have been provided to show the civil and landscape scope for the project to support discussion and feedback.

Consultation is underway with neighbouring stakeholders. These stakeholders have been invited to review and provide feedback for consideration in the final design process.

The final designs are expected to be completed in July 2022 with works completed later this year.
