Budget

The City of Ballarat is required under Section 94 of the Local Government Act 2020 to prepare a budget for each financial year and subsequent 3 financial years.

Changes to the preparation of the City of Ballarat Budget 2024/25

The City of Ballarat is changing its budget preparation process. This involves a comprehensive, earlier engagement period which is designed to improve past engagement processes. This will ensure Council is better informed of residents’ priorities within the context of the Council Plan 2021-2025 prior to the beginning of the development of the City of Ballarat Budget. For more information about the consultation process, visit the MySay page.

City of Ballarat Budget 2024/25 timeline  

  • October 2023: Consultation
  • December 2023: Council Officers review consultation
  • January 2024: Council Officers review Council’s financial performance to 31 December 2023  
  • February 2024: Council Officers prepare updated budget forecasts for 2023/24 (2023/24 forecasts must be accurate before the 2024/25 budget is presented). 
  • 28 February 2024: Council Officers present updated budget forecasts at Council Meeting 
  • March/April 2024: Council Officers workshop draft Budget with Councillors
  • 22 May 2024: Council Officers present Budget to Councillors at Council Meeting, for adoption
