YOUTH COUNCIL
The Youth Council is a committee of young people that are dedicated to representing the voice of young people. They discuss local youth issues and provide information to the City of Ballarat by representing, consulting, lobbying, advocating and creating new opportunities while assisting to organize events and projects. Youth Council meet monthly and work towards making Ballarat the best place possible for young people.
Members of the Youth Council can become involved in, or create any projects, learn new skills, have fun and meet new people all while having their say on what is important to Ballarat's youth!
YHQ
YHQ youth workers provide advice, referrals, support around a variety of issues young people face as well as work with young people to plan a range of projects and events. YHQ also offers internet use, tea, coffee, information on youth committees and a safe places to chill for young people aged from 12-25. YHQ is open from 2.00pm-6.00pm Monday to Friday. If you have questions or need info come in and see us... It could be the best place to start!!
GEN Y - Youth Magazine
'Gen Y' is one of many programs within the Work For the Dole initiative. The programs main purpose is to up skill participants, supporting them to further their education or find employment whilst producing quality resources. 2009 - 2010 will see the group produce; Job and Recipe cards, CAFY Youth Services Register alongside regular YHQ relevant newsletters.
ZAQUE
Is a social / support group that meets weekly, supporting local Same Sex Attracted (GLBTI) young people. ZAQUE is funded by the State Government under the Youth Participation and Access program. A same sex attracted youth project worker works with the group to plan and facilitate a range of social/support activities as well as community awareness/education projects. Zaque can provide young people, teachers, workers, family and friends with info about sexuality, accepting diversity and other issues.
SEC - THE SONIKA EVENTS CREWS
SEC are the City of Ballarat Youth Services' Freeza committee. FReeZA is part of the State Government and provides funding to organisations to work with young people to plan and facilitate art, music and cultural events. The crew of about 13 young people meet weekly to work with project workers to support the youth volunteers to plan events and learn the skills to put on a range of events. SEC crew members get the chance to participate in a range of training such as FReeZA / The Push - which provides accredited training opportunities. SEC aims to run a range of FREE or cost effective events for young people to participate in. All City of Ballarat Youth Services events are drug, alcohol and smoke free.
