 How Council is reducing waste 
The City of Ballarat is committed to conducting their own operations sustainably.
Initiatives underway in the council to reduce waste are:

  • Establishment of a Sustainability Champions Team of staff to model and facilitate waste reduction across the council.
  • Office waste separation system at the Gordon, Phoenix, Town Hall, Art       Gallery, Eureka Centre & Her Majesty's Theatre buildings.  Materials are separated into recycling, composting and landfill bins, which in some areas are helping to divert 50% of office waste from landfill.
  • Recycling of metals at the Council Depot.
  • Encouraging staff to practice regarding paperless meetings through the use of technology.

Council has achieved a Bronze certification in the Statewide Resource Smart (Waste Wise) program.
