Bin Enquiries

All enquiries related to new, damaged or replacement bins should be directed to Councils Customer Service unit on  03 5320 5500 or by utilizing Council’s  E-Services online Customer request system.

Bin Supply

Garbage bins and Recycling bins in the City of Ballarat are supplied to the ratepayer or property as part of the Waste Collection Service.  Bins are available in 140Litre with a red lid for General Waste and 240Litre with a yellow lid for Recycling, light green lid for Green Waste.

All Council supplied bins are stamped with a City of Ballarat logo. We do not deliver bins to your property unless it is occupied to reduce the occurrence of bins being stolen.

Any bin provided to the property address by Council remains the property of City of Ballarat and should remain at the property for the next occupant if you leave or sell your property.

Damaged Bin Repair or Replacement.Top of document.

Ballarat City Council will repair or replace damaged bins free, as part of Councils waste collection service. It is recommended that you don't make any temporary repairs to bins as this can create complications for Councils bin repair operative.

You will need to tell us: 

  • Your name 
  • Your address and contact number
  • What type or size of bin needs to be repaired? (Garbage or Recycling)
  • What part of the bin is damaged? , Wheel(s), Lid, Handle, Pin/s Axles, Join
  • Degree of Damage. (Is Bin unusable?)

Depending on the condition of your bin/s, we will arrange for them to be repaired or replaced. This may take:

  • Two to three working daysfor replacement and
  • Up to 10 daysfor repairs under normal circumstances, in line with routine collection cycle.

You can continue to use the bin while it is awaiting repair or replacement.

Council will remove and reuse or recycle unwanted or damaged bins.
