AUSTRALIAN CENTRE FOR DEMOCRACY AT EUREKA

The $11 million Australian Centre for Democracy at Eureka project, funded by Ballarat City Council and State and Federal governments, will see the Eureka Centre expand in its role as a centre for democracy, learning and interpretation.

The Australian Centre for Democracy at Eureka will feature:

  • Indoor theatrette and outdoor amphitheatre for community events;
  • Café for community use;
  • Educational resources on the history of democracy from the people's perspective and the history of Eureka;
  • Interactive exhibition spaces; and,
  • Public access to digital heritage and genealogical resources.

The Australian Centre for Democracy at Eureka project is progressing with a detailed design for the project now available for public viewing and feedback.

The planning permit application and associated documents are still available for download: Eureka Planning Application

The Eureka Centre will be required to close for approximately 12 months as part of the redevelopment. It is expected that this will take place mid to late 2010 subject to the town planning process. As part of the redevelopment the Visitor Information Centre will be temporarily relocated from the site. Council is currently considering options for a temporary Visitor Information Centre
