Respite services support the caring relationship by providing the carers of frail older people and people of any age with a disability, with a break from their caring responsibilities. They also provide an opportunity for the person being cared for to have a break, or an outing without their usual carer.

Respite services are offered:

  • for short periods on a regular weekly basis, or
  • occasional care for longer duration when required, usually once a month
  • variation to these can oocur, depending on the individual needs of the client and their carers.

Respite can be:

  • in the clients home on a one to one basis
  • in the community to enable the client to participate in individual or group activities (e.g. sport)
