Aquatic Facilities

Swimming pool operators have a responsibility to ensure that the facilities they provide to the public are safe. Regular water quality monitoring is essential in ensuring that pools are safe, healthy environments and free from disease-causing organisms and bacteria.

All premises that operate a swimming pool or spa that is available to the public must notify Council’s Environmental Health Unit and meet the requirements under the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2009.

Environmental Health Officers conduct routine pool testing of all public pools and spas within City of Ballarat to ensure that the water quality meets the requirements set out in the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2009. Pool operators must conduct their own daily water testing and maintain a record of all test results. These records will be checked by an Environmental Health Officer during the routine inspection.

Advice and guidance on pool operation and water treatment can be found in the Pool Operators Handbook.
