The City of Ballarat will be supporting local primary schools to deliver the VicHealth Walk to School program in 2016. If your school is not taking part, parents can still register their children using the Walk to School registration form.
The program runs throughout October, the first 4 weeks of Term 4. Schools can register onlineand order materials. Best to register early to get materials for the start of the program.
Registered schools will receive:
A set of 25 Victoria Walks pedometerswhich can be used for class activities, or as prizes
A ‘Walking Leaders’ pack of 6-10 lapel pins, certificates and informationfor the ‘Walking Leaders’ program
Ahard cover bookfor reading aloud to younger classes and developing class based activities around walking
From November, access toa printed pack (and e-pack) of information and mapswhich can be given out to families and put on the school website to encourage walking and riding to school and identify good park and walk areas.
Use the 2 minute Walk to School Video at assemblies to let students, staff and parents know what is involved in the program and how to take part.
Council will also be running a series of radio ads and other promotions and will act as a support for schools throughout the program.
