Occasional Child Care

Occasional Child Care is a licenced service operated by the City of Ballarat, offering a minimum of two hours care or up to a full day/week.

Bookings are available on the day (places permitting) or up to three weeks in advance. Benefits of the flexible booking system support parents to meet family needs such as taking a break from the demands of parenting, studying, shopping, keeping appointments, recreation, part time/casual work hours, socialisation for child/ren and family, leisure pursuits, voluntary community work, etc.

Staff ratios at Occasional Child Care is 1 staff member for every 4 children under the age of 3 years, and 1 staff member for every 11 children over the age of 3  years.

Occasional Child Care has been assessed by the Department of Education and Training and has successfully met the requirements of the National Quality Standards.

Opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm.

Occasional Child Care is open 48 weeks per year, with a holiday program available in January.


Childcare is charged in two-hour blocks, as a cost of $13 per hour:

  • 9 to 11am
  • 11am to 1pm
  • 1 to 3pm
  • 3 to 5pm

Care is also available from 8:30 to 9am, at a half hour charge.

Sessions longer than two hours are available, for example, care from 9am to 12pm is charged as two, two-hour blocks.

Parents who use Occasional Child Care are eligible for Federal Government Child Care Benefit and Child Care Rebate.
