The project: The future Sebastopol Library will be a vibrant and interesting place for the whole community, welcoming people of all ages and all backgrounds. It will be a local hub for a variety of exciting cultural, learning and recreational programs.
Features of the new and improved Sebastopol Library:
Increased opening hours
Increased library floor space
Upgraded public toilet facilities located inside the building (current toilet facilities are located outside)
Meeting room space available out of hours
Upgraded technology room and facilities
Increased children’s collection and activity space located adjacent to children’s playground facility
Inclusion of a dedicated young adult space
More areas to sit and gather due to removal of small rooms and walls
New furniture and relocatable shelving on wheels
Out of hours returns chute directly into a dedicated sorting room
An additional rear accessible entrance adjacent to car parking space providing a safer option for library users to access the facility
Upgraded staff facilities
In 2016, an exciting new addition to the original project was approved, with a commitment made to deliver a Maternal and Child Health Centre, public meeting and activity space, and further landscaping and outdoor recreation space in the next three years.
The Commitment: The Sebastopol Library Redevelopment is joint-funded by the City of Ballarat and the Victorian Government’s Living Libraries Program.
Project status: The redevelopment will commence on Monday 27 November 2017.
Completion date: The new library is expected to open in mid-2018.
Sebastopol Library users can access the Wendouree and Ballarat Libraries, as well as the Library Outreach locations, during the construction period.
