Project: Marty Busch Recreation Reserve upgrade project 

Location: Marty Busch Recreation Reserve, Sebastopol 

Project status: Underway with the project expected to be complete in time for the 2017 Ballarat Football Netball League season.

Project cost: $1.7 million, fully funded by the City of Ballarat

Project to deliver:

  • Oval reconstruction including installation of new sub-surface drainage, automatic irrigation system, 300mm sand profile and new turf playing surface.
  • Power upgrade to the Reserve providing for future electrical infrastructure to service sports grounds, soccer facility, cycling velodrome and netball facilities
  • Major lighting upgrade – including lighting towers to bring the facility up to semi-professional level (200 Lux) and enable night matches
  • New fencing and coaches boxes

Construction by: 

  • Oval upgrade to be delivered by Pitchcraft Pty Ltd.
  • Power upgrade to be delivered by TJ Coutts.
  • Lighting upgrade by SS Electrics.
  • Netball court constructed by Butler Excavations Pty Ltd


*** In April, 2016 a new netball court was constructed at the Marty Busch Recreation Reserve. The $265,000 project was fully funded by the City of Ballarat and delivered a synthetic netball surface and associated infrastructure to replace the existing asphalt court surface. The new facility is located adjacent to the current netball court at the reserve and is used by the Sebastopol Football and Netball Club.
