As part of the upgrade project, Her Majesty’s Theatre presented the public with a unique opportunity to purchase the former Theatre seats.
In January 2016, hundreds of theatre lovers placed their bid and a total of 464 seats found a new home in interesting locations including many local homes, cafes and businesses, schools and dance clubrooms, and 150 seats will deck out the Murtoa Mechanics Hall.
The Seat Sale was the creation of the Her Majesty’s Fundraising Committee, a passionate group of local people dedicated to the preservation of our historic theatre. Bidders were encouraged to name their price for a piece of Ballarat’s history, and more than $13,685 was raised for future restoration of Her Majesty’s Ballarat.
